OVERVIEW:
Emerald Lake was a joint parking structure project we completed with Big Sun Solar that consisted of building canopies to provide shade and protect cars from the elements while simultaneously creating renewable energy. We were responsible for installing the panels, doing the interconnects, capturing the DC voltage, and positioning the feeder wires into a combiner and rectifier, connecting them to the AC power system.
CHALLENGE:
Emerald Lake required top-notch coordination of resources. We had to be perfectly in sync with the erectors and other teams working on the project, as our services needed to be integrated between the steps of the various processes. This was a labor-intensive project, as the solar panels could not just be added onto an existing structure – they were a foundational component themselves.
SOLUTIONS:
Amongst various supply chain challenges, we had to develop new vendor partnerships to source many of the materials needed to complete the project. All this hard work paid off, as we met all five main goals we always set for our projects: It was completed on time, done under budget, and resulted in zero injuries, punch list items, or callbacks.
OUTCOMES:
Emerald Lake has quickly noticed a significant reduction in its energy costs while also being able to sell electricity back to the utility. There have been minimal ancillary expenses, disruptions to the structures, or surface disruptions, resulting in a successful project all around.
“We’ve partnered with Tutor Electric on multiple large-scale solar PV projects. Not only do they deliver high-quality results, but they also maintain excellent communication throughout the entire project. We look forward to working with Tutor on more projects in the greater Dallas/Forth Worth area.”
